Our Curriculum

At Thorngumbald Preschool we value children’s independence, self-awareness and confidence so that they become independent learners.
We encourage children to be confident communicators, expressing their own needs and feelings, and have respect for each other.
We encourage healthy life choices and independence in self care.

Curriculum, Teaching and Achievement:

Through the seven areas of learning and an enriched learning environmentally both planned and child led activities, children will:

  • Build respectful relationships with others;
  • Build confidence and self-esteem;
  • Be outgoing and try new experiences;
  • Be able to express their own needs and ask for help when needed;
  • Be able to follow instructions and recall events.

Our Ethos:

At Thorngumbald Preschool, it is our mission to provide high quality learning experiences in a safe, friendly and nurturing environment which is inclusive to all children and their families.

We work in partnership with parents, carers and outside agencies to ensure all children’s individual needs are supported.

    Tapestry

    We use Tapestry, an online learning journal, to record what the children are doing throughout the week. This presents an opportunity not only for us to share with parents what the children are doing, but also for parents to share with us what they are doing at home.

    The Early Years Foundation Stage requires that we supply parents and carers with a short summary of their children’s development in the three prime areas of learning and development: personal, social and emotional development; physical development; and communication and language, when a child is aged between 24-36 months. This is called the Two-Year Check. The key worker is responsible for completing the check using information from ongoing observational assessments carried out as part of our everyday practice, taking account of the views and contributions of parents and other professionals.

    Once a week we offer a library session where the children are able to choose a book to take home and share with their family. When they bring back their book the following week, the children are encouraged to talk about the story have read and tell us what they think about it!
